Four construction workers killed as wall collapses

Four women construction labourers were killed and five others sustained injuries when a wall of a rice mill under construction collapsed at Pazhaiyur near Manachanallur near here on Monday evening.

The incident occurred around 4.30 p.m. when the labourers were engaged in the construction work.

The deceased have been identified as Vijaya, Pushpavalli, Rajalakshmi and Mekala.

The injured have been to the Annal Gandhi Government Headquarters Hospital and to a private hospital.

A massive relief work, engaging the earth mover is currently on to remove the debris and find out if there are more number of people under it.

The District Collector, T. Soundiah, along with revenue officials is monitoring the work at the accident spot.

Police and revenue sources said that the construction of the rice mill has been going on for the past four to five months. The wall that collapsed was about 30 feet high and the workers were engaged in carrying the construction materials to the top when the tragedy struck.
