A foot overbridge connecting all the platforms at Tiruchi Railway Junction will come up thereby creating another facility for passengers to reach the platforms and the station’s second entry.

The Southern Railway construction wing is carrying out the overbridge project at an estimated cost of Rs. 6.5 crore. The work has commenced at the two entrances of the station – a major one in the Southern Railway zone.

Railway sources said the end-to-end foot over bridge would be made of steel. The usage area would be made of concrete to a length of 150 metres to 170 metres to connect all the seven platforms besides connecting the second entry side at Kallukuzhi.

A senior official said the foot over bridge construction work had commenced at the originating point near the parcel office close to the station’s main entrance as well as at the Kallukuzhi second entrance side.

The plan is to complete the work in eight to nine months, said the official adding that an escalator along the foot steps would come up in future.

The foot over bridge will be an added facility for passengers to reach the platforms and the Kallukuzhi side, said the official. Presently, the station has a subway connecting all the platforms with the density of passengers being high at night.
