Farmers demonstrate against Karnataka government

Members of various farmers’ associations staged a demonstration near Khadi craft here on Friday morning condemning Karnataka which has failed to comply with the direction of the Supreme Court to release 10,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu up to December 9 (Sunday).

Led by Masilamani (Tamil Nadu Vivasayigal Sangam — affiliated to CPI-M), Aiyalai Sivasuriyan (Tamil Nadu Vivasayigal Sangham — affiliated to CPI), Puliyur R. Nagarajan (Agriculturists Wing of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee), Chinnadurai (Tamilaga Vivasayigal Sangham) and P. Viswanathan (Tamil Nadu Aaru Matrum Eri Pasana Vivasayigal Sangham), they demanded the dismissal of the Karnataka Government which had flouted the orders of the court and urged the Central government to ensure release of water to Tamil Nadu to save the standing paddy crops.
