Event-free election in Nagapattinam

It was an event-free elections, with Nagapattinam witnessing a poll percentage of for its six Assembly constituencies here on Wednesday. Nagapattinam registered 82 percent suffrage; Vedaranyam percent; Keezhvelur perpcent; Poompuhar percent; Sirkazhi percent; and Keezhvelur percent

The district registered a poll percentage of 75.52 percent with an electorate of 9,84,357 people here in the 2006 Assembly elections.

The first hour, upto 9 a.m, a nine percent poll percentage was registered here. Forenoon registered a poll percentage of 46 percent; which went up to 64 percent by 3 p.m.

The control room here received 16 complaints today, with three out of five complaints suggesting money distribution in Vedaranyam; two out of three complaints of money distribution in Poompuhar; three complaints of money distribution in Sirkazhi, three complaints of money distribution and two complaints of canvassing by party cadres within 100 meters of the polling booths, in Nagapattinam.

No complaints were registered from Sirkazhi and Mayiladuthurai. The control room here had received a total of 382 complaints since the coming into force of the model code of conduct for the six Assembly constituencies. Nagapattinam registered a maximum of 117 complaints, Vedaranyam registered 80, Keezhvelur registered 64, Sirkazhi registered 49, Poompuhar 42, and Mayiladuthurai registered 30 complaints.
