The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) launched its campaign for the Srirangam by-election with an all-out attack on the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam government on Thursday.
The party chose to kick start its poll campaign near the Srirangam Rajagopuram with DMK former minister K.N. Nehru and the party’s Rajya Sabha member Tiruchi N. Siva drumming up support in favour of N. Anand.
The party office-bearers lashed out at the ruling AIADMK government accusing it of being “inept” and not having ushered in any change as promised in the 2011 Assembly elections.

Campaigning in an open vehicle flanked by Mr. Nehru and the party candidate, Mr. Siva took on the AIADMK government accusing it of being “anti-democratic”. The DMK and other opposition parties were denied a chance to speak in the Legislative Assembly in the last three-and-a-half years, he said.
Hitting out at the AIADMK government for having increased the price of milk, he alleged that law and order had deteriorated in the State.
Tamil Nadu had not witnessed any progress after the AIADMK staged a come back in 2011, he said and appealed to the electorate to teach a fitting lesson to the ruling party.

There was just a namesake government in Tamil Nadu today, he said and added that the byelection provided an opportunity for the voters to deliver a verdict on the AIADMK government.
