Ensure free registration of cases, accord priority for community policing and maintain good liaison with the general public at the local level to widen information network.
This in essence was the message sent out to the Station House Officers (SHOs) by the Director General of Police Letika Saran at a meeting with the law enforcers of Tiruchi Range and Tiruchi City here on Thursday.
Attended by the Inspector General of Police, Central Zone, Karan Singha, Commissioner of Police K. Vanniaperumal, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Tiruchi Range, A. Amalraj, Superintendents of Police and more than 100 SHOs, the meeting was convened by the DGP to assess the performance of the SHOs and brief them on a mosaic of aspects conforming to their work schedule.

The progress made by the investigators in some of the cases was reviewed by the DGP during the over three-hour long meeting held at the district police office here.
Ms. Saran sought to know the number of pending non-bailable warrants in cases where hardcore law and order and property crime criminals, categorised under Para – I and Para- II, were alleged to be involved.
Ms.Saran also instructed the field level officials to visit villages falling within their respective jurisdiction frequently and interact with the public. Police sources said the SHOs were asked to note down the phone numbers of village heads, village vigilance committee members and friends of police besides making entry in the station history record.

Being field level officers, the SHOs were also instructed to conduct petition inquiry by going to the spot instead of calling the public to the police station.
Emphasising on prompt registration of cases, the DGP's message to the SHOs was clear on the detection aspect as well especially on detection of grave criminals. The DGP directed the law enforcers to provide arm bands to the friends of police members who accompany policemen during night rounds and not identity cards. The SHOs were advised to consider sympathetically the leave requests made by the constables.
A top police officer said the participating Superintendents of Police of Tiruchi Rural, Perambalur, Pudukottai, Ariyalur and Karur districts were instructed to attend the village vigilance committee meeting once a month. The SPs of Tiruchi and Karur were tasked with the responsibility of pursuing specific criminals operating within the Central Zone.
The SPs were also asked to review periodically the progress made in fake currency cases and convene meetings with the owners of jewellery shops and pawn brokers to strengthen security measures and check burglaries. They were also instructed to monitor the progress made in cases that were under investigation.
