He instructed the engineers attached to panchayat unions in the district to ensure speedy execution of work . Addressing officials attached to the Rural Development Department here on Friday, Mr. Ponnusamy, said the district administration attached priority for the implementation of the housing scheme. Any delay on the part of the beneficiaries in utilising the scheme should be immediately brought to the notice of the higher authorities so that the allotment could be diverted to other eligible persons to avoid time over-run. The Collector said the panchayat union engineers should submit a report on the progress of the work daily.

Reviewing the works taken up under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, Mr. Ponnusamy advised the Block Development Officers to utilise the services of the registered members of the scheme from the adjoining villages where no work had been taken up under the NREGS. The diversion of labourers would not only resolve the crisis caused by shortage of labourers but also ensure expeditious completion of the ongoing works, he said.

The Project Director, District Rural Development Agency, J. Bella; Sadaiyappa Vinayagamurthy, Assistant Director (Panchayats) and union engineers from all the blocks participated .
