Civil Supplies Corp expecting three lakh metric tonnes procurement

The Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation (TNCSC) has fixed a procurement target of over three lakh metric tonnes for the current ‘samba' season in the district, said Collector C. Munianathan at the inaugural of full-fledged Samba paddy procurement works at Thirumarugal here on Friday.

The district has witnessed samba cultivation in an area of 1,32,693 hectares and procurement is being undertaken through 234 procurement centres. This includes 38 Direct Procurement Centers in Nagapattinam, 21 in Vedaranyam and Thirukuvalai, 30 in Keezhvelur, 24 in Mayiladuthurai, 30 in Kuthalam, 29 in Tharangambadi and 41 in Sirkazhi.

Speaking on the occasion, Collector C.Muninathan pointed out that a samba procurement of over 3.19 lakh metric tonnes was undertaken as against the set target of 3 lakh metric tonnes last Samba season.

The commencement of procurement processes simultaneously across all taluks in the district is touted to be a full-fledged process among all districts of the Delta.

Equipments such as electric weighing machines, jute bags, moisture-gougers and funds towards procurements works were ready. Grade A variety of Paddy would fetch Rs.1,100; and common variety would fetch Rs.1,050 for farmers through procurement centres.

V.Rajendran, District Revenue Officer and S. Vishwanathan, Senior Regional Manager, Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation were among those present.
