CM to inaugurate Tiruvarur Government Medical College

The Government Medical College will start functioning here from this March end, U. Mathivanan, Dairy Development Minister, said on Tuesday.

He inspected the services rendered to patients at the out patient ward which is functioning from the new building of the Medical College complex from February 18.

He later told presspersons that construction of hospital, college, hostel and laboratory buildings for the new college are nearing completion. Indian Medical Council team will visit the college complex soon and give its approval after its assessment.

"The college will start functioning from March end and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi and Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin will participate in the inaugural function", Mr. Mathivanan said.

Now for the benefit of patients attending out patient ward at the college complex, fifty schedules of bus services are operated from Tiruvarur bus stand to the collectorate every day. Boards have also been erected at various places in the town regarding functioning of outpatient services at the new building, the Minister said.

He also said that 889 persons have so far undergone surgery under Kalaignar’s Insurance scheme for life saving treatment in Tiruvarur disrict.

M. Chandrasekaran, District Collector, accompanied the minister during his visit.
