Be bold and smart, girls told

Yugaa, a city-based all-women social welfare organisation launched its Raising Girls initiative at the Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Manachanallur, on Tuesday to give girls of the district an orientation in empowerment.

Attended by over 2,000 students along with their parents and teachers, the event saw the inauguration of awareness programmes in a female-friendly atmosphere.

Shanthi, Chief Educational Officer, Tiruchi district, motivated students to believe in themselves and understand the importance of education.

Vanitha, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Manapparai Sub-Division, Ramani Devi, Chairperson, Endometriosis Committee of Federation of Obstetric and Gynaecological Societies of India (FOGSI) 2014-2016, Kamini Devi, District Educational Officer, Lalgudi, Tiruchi district and Senthamarai Selvi, Headmistress, Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Manachanallur, were present.

The project inspires all girls to be strong, smart and bold providing the rural adolescent girls with life-changing experiences and solutions to the unique challenges which they face in that stage. It will focus on practical decision-making skills and vital information about their health and finance while increasing their solidarity with other girls and women.

Allirani Balaji, president, Yugaaa, said that it had been decided to hold awareness and training programmes for girls in view of shocking incidents recently.
