The Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, Tiruchi, handed over electric incinerators to about 90 educational institutions in and around Tiruchi on Thursday, under a project taken up in association with the Women Involved in Sanitation and Hygiene (WISH) and the National Service Scheme of Bharathidasan University.
The BHEL had committed to provide electric incinerators, meant for hygienic disposal of sanitary napkins, to 175 educational institutions under its corporate social responsibility initiative. The project was started in the year 2013 and 85 institutions were provided with incinerators in the first two stages of the programme.
At a function held at Bharathidasan University on Thursday, S. Gopinath, Executive Director, BHEL, Tiruchi, handed over the incinerators to the administrators of the institutions.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Gopinath said BHEL had been actively participating in Swachh Bharat campaign through various initiatives under its CSR scheme and also contributed towards education, employability training, drinking water, health and hygiene of the underprivileged section of the society in nearby areas.
Reiterating BHEL’s commitment to provide support social projects, Mr. Gopinath said students must act responsibly and contribute towards development of the society by excelling in their education utilising the facilities provided to them.
