The Hindu In School Chess Competition 2016 at Shrimati Indira Gandhi College in the city, which concluded on Sunday, witnessed an intense battle of brains.

The two-day competition, conducted in association with the Tiruchi District Chess Association, was held in three categories – Sub-juniors (Up to standards IV), Juniors (standards V to VIII), and Seniors (standards IX to XII).

It attracted 310 players – 39 in the sub-junior category, 204 in the junior category, and 67 in the senior category – from Tiruchi, Thanjavur, Karur, Erode, and Cuddalore districts.

Prizes were given to 45 students. Participation certificate was given to all the contestants. K. Meena, former Vice-Chancellor, Bharathidasan University, gave away the prizes.

The event was presented by Thyrocare. Shrimati Indira Gandhi College was the venue partner. Final standings (top four):
