Aadi Perukku celebrated with gaiety

Aadi Perukku festival was celebrated with fervour and enthusiasm in the Cauvery delta districts of Thanjavur and Tiruvarur on Tuesday. Women visited bathing Ghats along Cauvery, Vennar and Grand Anicut canal banks and worshipped the River . They performed pujas and set afloat lamps.

With water available in all the rivers and branches-thanks to the release of water from Grand Anicut on August one, people took holy dip in the water. Children had a good day by taking bath in the fresh water, jumping from the bridges into the water and swimming across the river. Pujas were performed at the bathing ghats along Grand Anicut canal near Big Temple in Thanjavur; along Cauvery at Thiruvaiyaru, Papanasam, Kumbakonam; along Vennar at Needamangalam, Mannargudi, Tiruvarur Pujas were offered to the Mother Cauvery temple at Thirucherai in Tiruvarur district.
