37.40 mm rain at Vathalai Anicut

Vathalai Anicut recorded the maximum of 37.40 mm of rainfall during some scattered rain across the district on Thursday. The following is the chief amount of rainfall recorded in the other parts of the district during the 24-hour period ending at 8.30 a.m. on Friday (in mm): Thuraiyur 35, Thenparanadu 20, Golden Rock 19, Tiruchi Junction 18.50, Tiruchi Town 17.50, Devimangalam 11, Pullampadi 10.80 and Navalur Kuttapattu 8.

Cotton auction

About 5,836 kg of cotton were traded at the weekly cotton auction at the Thuraiyur Regulated Market on Wednesday. Farmers had brought in 192 bags of cotton, which fetched a maximum of Rs.41.50 and an average of Rs.39 a kg. Cotton totally worth Rs.2.56 lakhs were traded at the auction. The next auction at the market would be held on April 22, according to a press release from K.S. Palanisamy, District Collector.

Training

A training programme for government employees of the district was conducted by the Anna Institute of Management at the Collector’s Office on Friday. District Collector K.S.Palanisamy, who inaugurated the programme, said the institute was conducting training programmes on different topics every month and urged government employees to utilise the programme to refresh their administrative skills.
