Six Uzbek citizens, including a 14-year-old girl and a four-year-old boy, were detained at the Tiruchi airport on Wednesday after being deported from Colombo for allegedly travelling on passports stolen from Goa.

They had planned to leave for the United Kingdom from Colombo, after having flown to Colombo from Tiruchi.

Based on information received from Colombo and a confirmation from the Danish Embassy in New Delhi that the passports used by them were stolen, the six persons were handed over to the airport police station here.

They comprised two families: Jacob and his wife Daniella, Dennis, his wife Maria, and their children, Dina (14) and Aaros (4).

Airport sources said the families had arrived in India separately from Moscow last month as tourists.

While Jacob and Daniella landed in Mumbai, Dennis and Maria along with their children landed at Goa. The families visited several places in the country.

The sources said the immigration authorities in Colombo refused them entry and deported them to Tiruchi. The Uzbek nationals landed by a SriLankan Airlines flight here on Wednesday morning.
