16 express trains in Tiruchi Division to have ‘train captain’

The Tiruchi Railway Division has nominated ‘train captains’ in a total of 16 daily, bi-weekly, tri-weekly and weekly express trains originating from the division with immediate effect.

They will provide assistance sought by passengers when the train is on the move and monitor on-board services offered by the railways.

The senior-most ticket checking official will be nominated as train captain, who will be provided with a uniform badge.

The trains include Tiruchi-Chennai Egmore Rockfort Express, Karaikal-Ernakulam Tea Garden Express, Tiruchi-Thiruvananthapuram Intercity Express, Thanjavur-Chennai Uzhavan Express, Mayiladuthurai-Coimbatore Jan Shatabdi Express, Mannargudi-Chennai Mannai Express, Tiruchi-Howrah biweekly Express, Puducherry-Kanyakumari weekly Express, Puducherry-Mangalore via Villupuram, Vriddhachalam weekly Express, Villupuram-Kharagpur and Villupuram - Purulia Expresses andVelankanni-Vasco Da Gama weekly Express.

All on-board railway personnel, including supervisors of outsourced agencies, will report to the train captain, who will be responsible for all facilities on the train, a senior railway official told The Hindu .

All on-board housekeeping, electrical and cleaning staff and Railway Protection Force personnel will report to the train captain.

Communication regarding nomination of train captain has been circulated to various railway departments in the division.

Mobile number

The mobile number of the train captain will be made available to passengers through reservation charts prior to departure, the official said.

The train captain will be provided with mobile numbers of onboard staff in order to get in touch with them as and when their services are required.

Passengers can contact the captain for any rail-related assistance while the train is on the move and lodge complaints for early redressal.

The badge will be handed over to the senior-most ticket checking official, who will then act as the captain till the next leg and so on, according to a railway communication.

Train captains have also been nominated in express and superfast trains passing through Tiruchi Division, including Chendur Express, Pallavan Superfast Express, Sethu Express, Rameswaram-Coimbatore and Rameswaram-Bhubaneswar weekly Expresses, Madurai-Lokmanya Tilak Terminal Weekly Express and Chennai-Mangalore Express.
