The Emergency Management and Research Institute (EMRI) will shortly provide an ambulance to exclusively serve the tribals in Pachamalai hills in the district.
Addressing presspersons here on Monday, H. Mohan, Regional Manager, GVK EMRI 108 Ambulance Services, Coimbatore Region, said priority was being accorded to ensure prompt emergency services to tribal habitations in the state. In Tiruchi district, one 108 ambulance would be stationed at the Pachamalai hills, and another at Puliancholai. Although monthly calls are expected to be few in number, timely assistance could be rendered by shifting patients to the Primary Health Centre at Sengattupatti, he said.
Nearly 60 ambulances would be sanctioned shortly for Tamil Nadu. Coimbatore region, comprising 15 districts, would get 20 vehicles. The EMRI has also planned to utilise the services of the ambulances belonging to tea estate owners in Udhagamandalam.

Earlier, Mr. Mohan gave away the cheque for Rs.5 lakh to the bereaved family members of A. Senthilkumar, Emergency Management Technician attached to the EMRI 108 Ambulance Service, who was killed in a road accident while attending to another accident victim in Tiruchi in May this year. Annakili, Senthilkumar's mother, received the relief sanctioned by the TTK Insurance Company.
