102 kg of ganja seized, four of a family arrested

In a huge haul of contraband, a special police team seized 102 kg of ‘ganja’ and arrested four persons at Lalgudi in the early hours of Tuesday. The narcotic substance was meant for illegal sale.

Those arrested were Shahul Hameed (63), his wife Sainaba (62), son Moideen Basha (42) and his wife Badar Nisha (40). The substance was concealed in several packets and kept in travel bags.

The narcotic is said to have been sent from Andhra Pradesh. The accused were taking the contraband in an autorickshaw to keep it in a safe place, when the special team, acting on a tipoff, intercepted the vehicle and seized it, according to police sources. The accused were later remanded. The Lalgudi police have booked a case.
