Women employees prevented from entering office

A scuffle broke out in front of the Public Office building near Museum Junction in the city on Wednesday morning, when a few members of various service organisations spearheading the indefinite strike against the proposed contributory pension scheme tried to prevent women employees from entering the Public Office.

A few pro-Left government employees and members of the Kerala Non-Gazetted Officer’s (NGO) Union raising slogans against the pension scheme and Oommen Chandy’s government had gathered in front of the Public Office around 10.30 a.m.

When three women employees tried to enter through the gate, a woman member from among the protesters tried to prevent them and pulled them towards her side. A few police officials who stood nearby rushed to the spot and safely escorted the employees to the office.

The Hindu , one of the employees rescued from the scuffle said that she did not want to register any complaint as she was not hurt in anyway.

The protesters said that there was no swerving from the objective of the strike until the government accepted their demand.
