Visits of Sonia, Modi: security stepped up

Security in the city has been stepped up in view of the impending visits of United Progressive Alliance Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi to the city later this week.

City Police Commissioner P. Vijayan said security was stepped up in the city and a strict vigil would be maintained over the next week on account of these VIP visits. Inspections by various police teams and bomb squads were conducted at the Thiruvananthapuram Central railway station at Thampanoor and the main KSRTC bus stations and depots in the city while patrols were keeping a watch on various crucial installations in and around the city.

Meanwhile, a special drive taken up by the police in the city on Sunday saw several persons, including those who had arrest warrants against them and many others who were accused in various cases, being rounded up and placed under arrest. Raids were conducted at several lodges.
