The University of Kerala has dismissed reports regarding the purported discontinuance of private registrations in the undergraduate level as “misleading” and intended to promote vested interests.
In a statement, Vice-Chancellor P.K. Radhakrishnan clarified that the varsity had decided to recommence post-graduate private registrations temporarily when the recognition of the School of Distance Education (SDE) had been withdrawn. However, with the University Grants Commission (UGC) according recognition to the institution yet again, a proposal to discontinue PG private registrations had been raised.
On this basis, a Standing committee that met on January 20 and the Syndicate which met on the next day approved the proposal unanimously. While a formal order had been issued on April 3, students who had gained registrations until then remained unaffected.

There is no ban imposed on private study in the graduate and PG levels. However, they will be facilitated through the SDE alone. A decision in this regard had been taken to prevent the dilution of standards. (EOM/SBG)
