The United Democratic Front (UDF) on Tuesday launched a day-and-night agitation under the auspices of various district committees in protest against the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government’s total failure to rehabilitate the victims of two consecutive floods, financial profligacy, and for dashing the hopes of millions of youngsters by wrecking the credibility of the Kerala Public Service Commission.
Inaugurating the agitation in front of the Ernakulam Collectorate, Leader of the Opposition Ramesh Chennithala said that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had adopted an authoritarian approach by framing all his critics in various cases.
He took strong exception to the Chief Minister’s decision to given sanction to the State Police Chief to prosecute Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Mullappally Ramachandran for criticising him.

He alleged that the State government had imposed treasury curbs in view of a financial crisis, but did not have any qualms in diverting flood donation to meet its financial extravaganza.
Mr. Ramachandran, who inaugurated the agitation in Kozhikode, criticised the State government for its wasteful expenditure, focussing on the huge amounts spent on the Chief Minister’s security.

All India Congres Committee general secretary and former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, who inaugurated the stir in front of the Secretariat here, blamed the government for its inhuman approach towards flood victims who did not get any assistance. The stir was held in 10 districts. The UDF will hold the agitation in Thrissur on September 6, while in Idukki, Wayanad, and Kottayam, the dates will be announced later.,
The agitation will conclude at the respective district centres on Wednesday morning. Hundreds of UDF workers converged at the various venues.
