LDF moves no-confidence motion, supported by BJP

The United Democratic Front (UDF) lost power in the Nemom block panchayat with the no-confidence motion moved by the Left Democratic Front (LDF) members getting passed on Friday.

The reverberations of the recent no-confidence motions in Vilavoorkal and Maranalloor grama panchayats, where the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lost power, were felt in Nemom as the BJP’s decision to support the motion here was an after-effect of losing in those two panchayats.

The Nemom block panchayat has seven members each of the UDF and the LDF, and Bharatiya Janata Party has three members.

Corrupion alleged

“We were forced to move the motion because there have been instances of corruption and nepotism. There is a clear lack of efficiency and transparency in the utilisation of funds. Even the preparation of the annual Plan has been delayed,” said LDF member B. Radhakrishnan Nair.

However, the BJP members have another story to tell. According to them, they are completely satisfied with the working of the block panchayat, but decided to support the motion based on a whip from the BJP’s district leadership.

The seven UDF members stayed away from the voting and the motions sailed through with the support of all the nine members present.
