The police team investigating the murder of former radio jockey Rajesh alias Rasikan Rajesh in Madavoor, on Tuesday arrested two more people, including one of the prime accused who allegedly had direct involvement in the crime.

The third accused, Appunni, 32, of Kayamkulam, and his brother-in-law Sumith, 34, of Chennithala, were apprehended by the police as soon as they reached Pettah here. Appunni, who had managed to evade arrest for three weeks since the murder, was purportedly assisted by Sumith, who had settled in Chennai for several years. “The duo has been constantly on the run in various places, including Chennai, Madurai, Puducherry, Rameswaram, Danushkodi, Coimbatore and Velankanni.

They were learnt to have reached Ernakulam from Velankanni on Monday,” Attingal Dy. SP P. Anilkumar said. During the course of the probe, Appunni had made attempts at misleading the investigating team. Having known to be using multiple SIM cards, he had gifted a mobile phone to an auto-rickshaw driver in Puducherry, while abandoning another in a lorry in Madurai.

Appunni is also known to be a habitual offender involved in various criminal activities. As has been the case with the other accused Mohammed Salih, Swathi Santhosh and Yasin, Appunni was found to have contracted chicken pox.
