Tagore theatre to be greened

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, on Monday, said that the government's modernisation plan would not rob the landmark Tagore Centenary Theatre of its tree wealth.

He said the proposed architectural design for the theatre gave importance to the staging of modern and traditional art forms and would reflect Indian and Kerala culture at its aesthetic best.

Culture Minister K.C. Joseph said the environs of the theatre would be further greened and tastefully landscaped. The proposed design would blend seamlessly with the existing one.

Transport Minister V. S. Sivakumar, poet O. N. V. Kurup, filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan, sculptor Kanayi Kunhiraman, litterateur George Onakkoor, thespian D. Reghuthaman, V. Sivankutty, MLA, K. Muralidharan, MLA and M. M. Hassan were present at the meeting chaired by the Chief Minister.
