Surprise raid on 69 eateries

The eateries, found not conforming to food and safety standards and hygienic conditions as per Kerala Municipality Act, were issued notices.

In a surprise crackdown on Thursday, health squads of the city Corporation inspected 69 eateries in the city and found nearly 35 hotels did not match safety and hygiene standards.

The inspection was conducted by 17 health squads in 69 hotels in the north and south health zones of the city.

As many as 37 hotels in the south zone were inspected by the squads, and 19 hotels including Nice Hotel, Arafath, Pappanamkode Devi, APM Hotel and Aishwarya Hotel in the Nemom zone and Hotel Lucia in the Fort circle, were issued notices.

In the Medical College circle, notice was issued to Hotel Al Ameen, Kannamoola, Greenland, Hotel Kiran, Bismi Kumarapuram, Hotel Krishna, Matha Fast Food, Hotel Ganga, Hotel Thiruvonam, Brothers, Saraswathy Bhavan, Hotel Amma, Indian Coffee House and Hotel Karbala Chalakkuzhy.

In the north zone, Kazhakuttam Hussain hotel, Abdul Nasser Hotel, Delhi Darbar Hotel of Attipra zone, Hotel Veedu, Hotel Rehmania, Hotel Kannoos, Hotel Amrutha, Hotel Javad of Chenthitta circle, and Aryajyothi, Greenland and Sanju Hotel of Nanthencode circle and Indian Coffee House, Sreekariyam Walki Restaurant and Maveli Restaurant of Ulloor zone were issued notices.

32 hotels

The health squads inspected a total of 32 hotels in this zone. Apart from this, an unauthorised eatery functioning without licence at Prashant Nagar near Ulloor zonal office was closed down by the Corporation authorities.

The inspections were led by two health supervisors of the Corporation. Around 20 health inspectors and 52 junior health inspectors participated. There would be more such raids, officials said.
