Study of dam continues

A remotely operated underwater vehicle (ROUV) was used on Wednesday to survey the Mullaperiyar dam to assess its condition. The survey is being conducted dividing it into several blocks. An expert team of the Central Soil and Materials Research Station (CSMRS) is conducting the survey.

Now a random survey is being held and it will continue till a complete picture of the dam is got, said a senior official of the Irrigation Department, who is with the team.

A meeting of senior officials of Kerala and Tamil Nadu was convened by CSMRS director Murari Ratnam on Wednesday. It consisted of Irrigation Department chief engineer P.Lathika, Mullaperiyar special cell chairman M.K. Parameswaran, representing Kerala, and Tamil Nadu represented by senior officials led by M.Selvaraj, member-secretary, Kaveri technical cell.
