Five students and a teacher of Kuttamala UP School at Amboori have been hospitalised as they developed various difficulties after consuming the midday meal at the school.
According to official sources, five students, Albin, 8, Alan, 11, Abhijith, 8, Abhiskeh, 12, and Noufal, 12, have been admitted to SAT Hospital while their teacher Amala Pushpam, 45, has been taken to the Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College Hospital. The affected students are students of Classes 2, 3, 5 and 7.
While two of the students have been admitted to the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit, the others have been admitted to the ward. They reportedly developed the symptoms after consuming colocasia (chembu) in the sambar served at the school. Many students of the school were initially taken to the Parassala government hospital with various difficulties, including itching in the mouth, vomiting, and difficulty while talking. Five among them were later referred to the SAT Hospital.
