The Thiruvananthapuram region, which covers Kerala and Lakshadweep, has registered the highest pass percentage at 99.87 in the Class X examination conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) at the national level for the third consecutive year.
The overall national level pass percentage is 96. 21, a dip of 1.11 percentage points compared to last year.
As per the data available with the CBSE regional office here, of the 74,113 candidates registered from Kerala and Lakshadweep, 74,085 appeared for the exams. Of them, 73,987 cleared the exam, recording a pass percentage of 99.87. Last year, the region’s pass percentage was 99.21 when the overall tally was 97.32 per cent.

Girls performed marginally better with a pass percentage of 99.89, while the tally for boys was put at 99.85 per cent.
A total of 35,759 girls and 38,326 boys appeared for the examination, the results of which were announced on Saturday.
Regional Director Mahesh D. Dharmadhikari said it was for the third consecutive year the region was topping the list.

Students lauded
Complimenting the students and the schools for excelling in the examination, he said the results would help attract more students to the CBSE stream.
“At one point we witnessed a slight slide in the number of students opting for the CBSE stream. Performance of schools in the past three years will certainly help arrest the slide,” he said. Mr. Dharmadhikari said the majority of the students secured a 10 Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA). CGPA is the average of grade points obtained in all the subjects, excluding the sixth additional subject as per scheme of studies.
