: Kerala needs to catch up with other States in protecting government websites and applications from cyberattacks, National Cyber Security coordinator Gulshan Rai has said.

Talking to the media on the sidelines of an international workshop on cyberthreat resilience here on Tuesday, Mr. Rai said the Central government had issued directions to States as far back as 2005, mandating the hosting of government websites on secure infrastructure within the country. “The instructions were repeated in 2007 and 2008.” Mr. Rai said it was not enough to carry out a security audit or host the website on a government server. “You have to look at both the hardware and software aspects. The hosting infrastructure should itself be secure. Both the infrastructure and website need to be audited regularly.”
