A low-cost pepper separator developed by the Amal Jyothi College of Engineering, Kanjirapally, has won the first prize at Techtop 2011, a national innovation contest, which concluded at Technopark here on Saturday. The prize instituted by Degree C comprises a cash award of Rs.1,00,000.
The second prize of Rs.50,000, sponsored by Intel, was won by MSS CET, JALNA, Maharashtra for developing a ‘Seeding machine', while the third prize of Rs.30,000, sponsored by Kerala State Council of Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE), went to the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology, Kottayam, for its project ‘Density and Priority- based Traffic Control System Using Computer Vision In Arm Processor'.
Consolation prizes of Rs. 20,000 each were given to St. Joseph's College of Engineering, Jeppiaar Nagar, Tamil Nadu for their Turbo-charger in petrol engine (single Cylinder 4-S engine); Amal Jyothi College of Engineering for its Helioped project and Sahradaya College of Engineering & Technology for developing a multifunctional bed care unit for bedsore patients. The consolation prizes were sponsored by Intel, PTC and KSCSTE.

K. Kesavasamy, Global Head, Academic Interface Programme & Head, Corporate Learning Centre, Tata Consultancy Services, Thiruvananthapuram, was the chief guest at the award ceremony held at Technopark as part of the concluding ceremony of TechTop 2011.
As many as 18 colleges contested for the honours and showcased some innovative prototypes at the exhibition organised here in connection with the sixth edition of TechTop.
V.K. Damodaran, energy consultant for UNIDO, said, “Judging the 18 prototypes presented was very challenging for the jury because all the projects exhibited here were very interesting. All the projects exhibited were equally good.”
