Stale food seized from 9 hotels

Chicken fry, chicken roast, chicken curry, mutton curry, beef fry, beef roast, beef curry and chana curry were some of the stale items seized from the hotels.

A Corporation health squad led by Mayor K. Chandrika seized stale food from nine major hotels, including a star hotel, in the city in a lightening inspection conducted on Tuesday evening.

Mayor K. Chandrika told The Hindu that the squad had raided the Ambrosia Bakery, Vazhuthacaud; Taj Vivanta, Vazhuthacaud; Pankaj Hotel, Statue; Chick King, Vazhuthacaud; Azad, Vazhuthacaud; MRA Hotel, Palayam; Zam Zam, Palayam; Noor Mahal, Palayam; and Arul Jyoti, Statue.

The whole operation took around three hours. Stale food seized from these hotels was later displayed in front of the Corporation office.

Stale oil, chappati

“We seized stale food from all the hotels we inspected. At Arul Jyothi and Chick King the team seized stale oil while at Azad we found stale chappati,” Ms. Chandrika said after the inspection.

Chicken fry, chicken roast, chicken curry, mutton curry, beef fry, beef roast, beef curry and chana curry were some of the stale items seized from the hotels.

Notice to be served

Corporation health supervisor B. Biju said that Corporation would serve notice on these hotels as per Section 447 of Kerala Municipality Act by Thursday.

Ms. Chandrika said that the Corporation would conduct such lightning checks periodically to ensure quality of food and hygienic conditions.

Corporation standing committee chairpersons V.S. Padmakumar, S. Pushpalatha, Palayam Rajan and P. Shyamkumar were present in the squad. Health supervisors Biju and P.K. Sasikumar, health inspectors M.J. Baby and Rajesh were among the officials.
