Special steps to check diseases: Minister

Special measures are being taken to check the spread of infectious diseases in the State during the monsoon season, Health Minister V.S. Sivakumar said.

Following a high-level meeting of senior Health officials, including Principal Secretary, Health, Rajeev Sadanandan and National Rural Health Mission Director M. Beena, Mr. Sivakumar said all arrangements had been made in government hospitals to ensure the availability of medicines and to treat fever patients in IP clinics.

Fever clinics and facility for blood investigations would be made at taluk hospitals, and multi-disciplinary management units would be set up at medical colleges.

He said he had asked the Mayor to engage more health inspectors in Corporation wards for public health activities. Fever and dengue cases had shown some increase in the border areas of Parassala and special control measures were being adopted in the region, Mr. Sivakumar said.

The Minister said review meetings would be held in all districts on Friday.
