SHRC directive to police on illegal money lending

July 27, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

Stating that it was clear now that a nexus existed between illegal money lenders and the police, State Human Rights Commission chairman J.B. Koshy has issued a directive asking the nodal officer of Operation Kubera, the State police drive against illegal money lending, to investigate four cases registered by the Malayinkeezhu police.

The Additional Director General Police (Headquarters) will be in charge of the investigation, the Commission chairman said, also asking for departmental action to be initiated against police officers, including sub inspectors and station house officers, who had not registered first information reports and failed to take action based on the complaints lodged by one Lakshmi Binu and her husband Binu Viswambaran from 2012 to 2014.

The complainants had stated that loan sharks had threatened and harassed them, with the Malayinkeezhu police too joining the loan sharks to harass them mentally and physically.
