Burglars with a different taste seem to be on the prowl in Neyyattinkara, where a pet shop has been targeted twice, apart from a newspaper office, a tuition centre and a computer centre from Sunday to Thursday.
The series of thefts, now being probed by the Circle Inspector, Neyyattinkara, began on Sunday, when several costly puppies and other pets were stolen from the Arya Aquarium at SBT Junction, barely a stone’s throw away from the local police station.
The burglars struck again on Tuesday, when they broke into the newspaper office, from where a laptop, a CPU and UPS, external hard disks and mobile phones were stolen. A tuition centre, from where four computers, a laptop and other valuables worth around Rs.1 lakh were stolen, and a nearby computer centre, from where valuables worth over Rs.50,000 were stolen, too were targeted the same day.

On Thursday, the aquarium was targeted again, with the owner finding the shutter pried open with an iron rod as he reached the shop for the day’s business.
More puppies, Java sparrows worth over Rs.50,000 and several from an exotic species of doves too were stolen this time around. With the thefts continuing right under the nose of the local police, traders in the area staged a protest on Thursday, with complaints being lodged with higher police officers.
