SEC issues notification on reserved posts

The State Election Commission has issued a notification on the post of presidents of local governments reserved for various categories.

As many as 417 grama panchayats would have women as presidents, 46 panchayats would have Scheduled Caste women presidents, and 46 panchayats would have Scheduled Caste presidents. The president’s post in eight panchayats each has been reserved for the Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Tribe women respectively.

Of the 152 block panchayats in the State, 67 would have women presidents. The post in eight block panchayats have been reserved for Scheduled Caste women, seven for Scheduled Castes, two for Scheduled Tribe women, and one for the Scheduled Tribes.

Seven of the 14 district panchayats would be headed by women and one would be headed by the Scheduled Castes. Malappuram district panchayat will have a Scheduled Caste president. Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, and Wayanad would have women presidents.
