Rs.10-crore outlay for service sector

With a slew of projects in education, health and social welfare, the service sector has emerged as the major thrust area in the Neyyattinkara municipality's annual budget, presented by vice-chairperson L.S. Sheela on Monday. An outlay of around Rs.10 crore has been earmarked for the sector in the budget which expects a revenue of Rs.66.06 crore and expenditure of Rs.64.51 crore.

Lifestyle diseases detection and treatment, installation of e-toilets, palliative care projects, source-level waste treatment plants, Centrally-aided sanitation schemes, and an Ayurveda hospital at Muttaykkadu are among the proposals in health sector.

Schemes for conservation and rejuvenation of drinking water sources has found a place in the budget. Establishment of Lal Bahadur Study Centre for vocational training, launching of a civil service foundation course and upgrading of Government Junior Basic School into a model primary school are among the proposals in education sector.

An electric crematorium and construction of crossway across Neyyar to connect Kannipuram and Irumbil Bhagam, are among proposals in infrastructure sector. Ms. Sheela said that efforts were on to pool in funds to construct a stadium at a cost of Rs.9 crore.

The discussion on the budget proposals will begin on March 28.
