Rectify anomalies in software for online building permit

The Ombudsman issued the order after hearing a petition filed by Hari Kumar of Kowdiar and others regarding the inordinate delay in sanctioning the permits through the online process.

Ombudsman for Local Self-Government Institutions M.N. Krishnan has ordered the city Corporation to constitute a committee to look into the anomalies in the software for processing online applications for building permits.

In an order issued on Tuesday, Mr. Krishnan said the committee should take steps to rectify the anomalies within two months.

He also directed the Corporation Secretary to convene fortnightly meetings of officials to review the processing of online building permit applications.

Techical expertise

Mr. Krishnan observed that although the transition from manual to computer processing of files was meant for delivering quick service, lack of technical expertise was causing delays.

“The very purpose of quick service should be ensured and technical objections shall not prevail,” he said.

Mr. Krishnan also directed the Corporation Secretary to submit a report after three months.
