Proving that organic farming can be practised anywhere—even within an educational institution—the students of University College here reaped a rich harvest on Thursday.
For close to a year the students—NCC cadets—teachers and representatives of the PTA sweated it out in the small banana plantation right in the middle of the college. And yes, what adds lustre to this harvest is the fact that only organic farming practises were followed.
The plantain farm was set up and maintained by the cadets of the NCC army wing of the college.

The first of the saplings were provided by K. Mohan, father of an NCC cadet and winner of the Haritha Shree award.
The commanding officer of NCC Kerala Battalion Colonel B.P. Singh and the college Principal V.T. Beena were among the regular visitors to the farm and were among those who received the first fruits of the harvest.
