SHRC seeks report in four weeks

The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has asked the Director of the Regional Cancer Centre (RCC) here to submit a report as to why essential drugs required for blood cancer patients are not available at the RCC pharmacy.

In a complaint before the SHRC, it was pointed out that the parents of children who are under treatment for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, were running from pillar to post to procure certain drugs (Mercaptopurine, Methotrexate), as these drugs have not been available in RCC pharmacy since months. The complaint said that these drugs used to be available for free in RCC pharmacy earlier. The drugs are currently unavailable in the open market.

The SHRC has asked that a report be submitted to it within four weeks.
