C5 initiative to take up social, ecological challenges for sustainable change

Minister for Tourism Kadakampally Surendran launches project C5 in the capital on Tuesday.

The district administration’s project C5 (Change for Change Climate Change) that aims at a sustainable lifestyle to mitigate the effects of climate change is a critical step towards protecting the future of the next generation, Minister for Cooperation Kadakampally Surendran has said.

He was speaking after inaugurating the initiative, to be taken up in association with various stakeholders, here on Tuesday.

Voluntary activities formed the foundation of the activities envisaged through C5, the Minister said, expressing hope that people and commercial establishments would come together for social good.

District Collector K. Vasuki said people should an alternative lifestyle — they should be green citizens, green building and organic agriculture should be adopted, she said.

The C5 initiative aims at roping in commercial establishments and bodies with the support of social activists and voluntary organisations. Corporate social responsibility funds will be used to take up environment-friendly and financially sustainable activities.

Terumo Penpol handed over ₹12 lakh for the Udhyanam initiative and ₹90,000 for those of the Trivandrum Sports League to Mr. Surendran. Mayor V.K. Prasanth was present at the function.
