Probe against Alphons Kannanthanam

Complaint lodged by the former Accountant General James K. Joseph that his appointment as a member of the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) was sabotaged by the former using a false document

The Judicial First Class Magistrate II, Nedumangad, has ordered a probe against the former IAS officer Alphons Kannanthanam, who was also a former legislator, and other officials on the basis of a complaint lodged by the former Accountant General James K. Joseph that his appointment as a member of the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) was sabotaged by the former using a false document.

According to a press release issued by Mr. Joseph, the court had ordered a probe by the Vattiyurkavu police since the crime alleged to have been committed by Mr. Kannanthanam had taken place when he resided at PTP Nagar here.

‘Sabotage bid’

The complaint stated that Mr. Kannanthanam had conspired with his IAS colleagues in the Department of Personnel and Training to sabotage Mr. Joseph’s appointment as CAT member and that the officials had reproduced Mr. Kannanthanam’s allegations as if it were the Intelligence Bureau’s report.

‘Adverse report’

The report alleged that Mr. Joseph’s voluntary retirement was owing to an adverse inquiry report in connection with recruitment of contingent staff in the AG’s Office.

Three other officials, Budhprakash, Kesab Desi Raju, and A.N. Tiwari, are the other accused in the case.
