May 22, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:52 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

The printing and distribution of textbooks for higher secondary class 12 will begin on May 25 and be completed by June 10, Education Minister P.K. Abdu Rabb has said.

He was speaking after announcing the results of the higher secondary and vocational higher secondary examinations here on Thursday. The distribution of textbooks for class 11 would be completed by June 30, he said.

As many as 30-lakh-odd copies of 65 textbooks were being readied for the higher secondary classes. Of these, 20 lakh were being readied by the National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT). The child-friendly textbooks pattern that was followed for the Plus One classes last year would be followed for the Plus Two classes too this year.

The new textbooks would have multicolour printing and ‘perfect binding,’ which would do away with the necessity of steel staples. Instead of the one-fourth demi paper used so far, the new textbooks would be printed on one-fourth crown paper. This, the Minister said, would enable easier handling of the books. Textbooks with higher number of pages would be split into two or three sections to reduce their weight. The printing and distribution of the textbooks was being done by the Kerala State Centre for Advanced Printing and Training(C-APT), he said.
