Poster trouble for D Company

Case registered against makers for using poster carrying images of don Dawood Ibrahim

The Malayalam film D Company has courted trouble with the Cantonment police on Sunday registering a case against its makers for using posters that carry images of the fugitive underworld don Dawood Ibrahim.

The suo motu case was registered under relevant sections of the Young Persons (Harmful Publications) Act, 1956, after directions from City Police Commissioner P. Vijayan, Cantonment Circle Inspector M.S. Santosh said. Stating that a decision would be taken shortly as to who — the film’s producer, distributor or the firm behind the posters — would be arraigned as an accused, Mr. Santosh said notices would be served on the accused this week. The use of Dawood Ibrahim’s image as promotional matter, particularly because he was wanted in connection with cases including the November 2011 Mumbai attacks, had attracted the case, he said.
