The eighth edition of the Parle-The Hindu MetroPlus Pookkalam Contest, powered by Vodafone, will be held at the College for Women, Vazhuthacaud, Thiruvananthapuram, on August 30, Nucleus Mall, Marad, Kochi, on September 5, and Sri Gujarati Vidyalaya Association Hall, Beach Road, Kozhikode, on September 6. The contest will be held between 9 a.m. and 12.30 p.m.
The pookkalam contest, first held in 2007, has become the top contest of its kind in terms of participation, quality and the value and number of prizes.

Only 50 teams can participate in the pookkalam contest on a first come, first served basis.

The registration fee is Rs.100, refundable after the event.
Five membersEach team should have five members, including the team captain, out of which three should be women.
The pookkalam should be prepared within two-and-a-half hours, which includes the time for drawing and flower arrangement.
The teams adjudged first, second and third will receive Rs.20,000, Rs.12,500, and Rs.7,500 respectively.
Ten teams will get consolation prizes of Rs.1,500 each. All teams will get Rs.750 as reimbursement for the cost of flowers.
The best traditionally dressed team and two individual participants will get special prizes. Decisions of the jury will be final.
Visitors will be allowed inside the hall from 2.30 p.m. onwards.
Exciting prizesThere will be exciting prizes for the lucky visitors. Parle Biscuit crunch contest will be conducted for children in classes 1-4, 5-8, 9-12 and also for women aged 18 years and above.
