Says reading, far from being dead, will thrive in different media.

Politics also requires an influx of the new generation just like what happened in the fields of literature and cinema, writer M. Mukundan has said. He was speaking at the inauguration of the DC Books Mega Book Fair here on Friday. The writer said reading was far from dead and would thrive in different media in the future.

“I remember lending a copy of Thakazhy’s Chemmeen several years ago from a library near my home. In some of the pages towards the end, I could notice dried tear droplets. Books are not to be read and forgotten, but to be experienced deeply. Now, reading has undergone a sea change and availability of books has increased. People have now started reading beyond fiction, on a variety of subjects,” Mukundan said.
