Around 200 people, who were shifted to the Government Upper Primary School and Fisheries Residential School at Valiathura after huge waves battered the coast two days ago, continue to live in the camps as sea continued to batter the coast on Monday.
Deputy Collector Chandrika said that they were asked to remain in the camps as there were reports of fresh sea erosion. They would remain there till further announcement. No loss of life or damage to property was reported. Adequate arrangements had been made to provide food for the families residing in the relief camps, she told The Hindu .
Valiathura councillor Tony Oliver said that four houses at Fathima Matha Road, Azhivilakam and Kuzhivilakam were damaged as huge waves lashed the coast. He said coastal erosion could be addressed temporarily by placing granite boulders on the coast.

A control room (Phone: 2730045 and 2730067) has started functioning in the Collectorate to report various monsoon related calamities.
