Ornament theft on bus: 3 women held

The Cantonment police on Saturday arrested three migrant women on the charge of lifting a gold necklace of a bus passenger.

They identified the suspects as Singari, 20; Manishwari, 18; and Pechi, 30, all residents of a Railway poramboke colony in Coimbatore.

The police said other bus passengers had caught the women and handed them over to the police when a woman passenger complained that they had snatched her necklace on the crowded bus.

The police said they recovered the chain from the suspects. The accused were produced before the court and remanded in judicial custody.

Ganja peddling: 3 held

The Poonthura police on Saturday arrested three youths on the charge of peddling ganja.

They identified the suspects as Muhammad Kasim Akbar, 30; Ali Akbar, 36; and Irshad, 25.

The police said they seized 250 gm of marijuana, stored in sealed plastic sachets, from the accused. The suspects were produced before the court and remanded in judicial custody.

Found hanging

A 48-year-old-man was found dead hanging from a tree near his house at Thiruvallam on Saturday.

The police identified the deceased as Pratapan alias Unni. He was one of the night watchmen at a private hospital in the city. The police suspect it to be a case of suicide. He is survived by wife Ajitha and children Aravind and Archana.
