One killed, 4 injured as cars collide

One person was killed and four others injured in a head-on collision between two cars near Technopark here in the early hours of Thursday.

The Kazhakuttam police identified the deceased as Subi, 22, son of Suresh Kumar and Bindu of Kulathoor, near Attipra here, who was driving a Maruti Swift car that was headed towards Kulathoor, while two of his co-passengers and two occupants of the other car involved in the collision, a Jaguar, driven by Anil Kumar, 44, of Mankulam, sustained injuries. They are currently under treatment at the Government Medical College Hospital here.

The police said the two cars, both reportedly above permissible speed limits, had collided around 1.15 a.m. near Technopark. Subi, a sound engineer by profession, succumbed to his injuries around 4.15 a.m. at the medical college.

His co-passengers were identified as his cousin Sanju, 21, and friend Sachu, 23, while Anil Kumar’s co-passenger was identified as Roshan Abraham, 40.

On way to airport

The latter duo, driving the car owned by one Bijulal Prabhakar, were reportedly on their way from Karunagapally to the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport, the police said, adding that their details were being ascertained.

The body of Subi was handed over to relatives after autopsy. Funeral was conducted around 3 p.m. at his residence in Kulathoor.

The Kazhakuttam police have registered a case and are investigating.
