In two separate accidents on NH 47 on Thursday, a 23-year-old employee of a BPO firm in Technopark was killed and 33 persons were injured, some of them seriously.
In the first accident in the morning near Pongumoodu here, a superfast bus of the Kerala State Transport Corporation collided with a multi utility vehicle (MUV) killing one person and injuring 16 others.
The deceased has been identified as Aswathy, daughter of Gopalakrishnan Nair and Girija, Kallaramoola, Muttada. Two of her colleagues at Aptara Learning Pvt Ltd who were in the MUV have been admitted to a private hospital with serious injuries. Their condition is stated to be serious. Fourteen others injured in the accident that took place around 8 in the morning on the busy stretch have been admitted to the Medical College Hospital. Hospital sources said their condition was stable.

Aswathy succumbed to the injuries in the hospital in the afternoon. She is survived by her husband Renjtih.
Aswathy along with four other employees were on their way to their office at the Technopark in the MUV when the accident took place.
The accident took place when the KSRTC bus that was proceeding to Thiruvananthapuram tried to overtake another vehicle, and hit the MUV, police said.

Hits electric post
In another accident late on Thursday night at Thattathumoola near Attingal, 17 persons, including a woman and a child, were injured when a bus in which there were travelling hit an electric post and turned turtle.
According to eyewitnesses, the inter-State air-conditioned bus veered to the left of the road knocking down the electric post before turning turtle. Local residents rushed to the spot and started rescue operations. George G. Selvaraj, one of the passengers, said most of the travellers suffered crush injuries. Several of them had to be pulled out of crumbled seats.
He said the accident occurred when the driver turned hard to the left to avoid a collision with an oncoming vehicle. More than six ‘108' ambulances were rushed to the spot to take victims to nearby hospitals.
